Master in Business Analytics

Data Scientist:

The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century

 Harvard Business Review, 2012

If “sexy” means having rare qualities that are much in demand, data scientists are already there. They are difficult and expensive to hire and, given the very competitive market for their services, difficult to retain. There simply aren’t a lot of people with their combination of scientific background and computational and analytical skills (Davenport, 2012).

The program aims to enable graduates to understand and solve complex business analytics problems using appropriate tools and techniques. Graduates will be able to devise, refine and apply business analytics tools and techniques competently in solving analytical problems of different industries and sectors. Ultimately, this will lead to an appreciation of the current business analytics problems of the industry and foster confidence in contributing to problem resolutions.

The Master in Business Analytics is the Philippines' first full-fledged graduate degree from Mapúa focusing on the tools, methods and applications of advanced analytics.

Graduates will also sharpen their communication and project management skills by solving real life business problems through a practicum course. A unique component to the program, it is during this phase where students get to work and solve real-life problems of organizations by using data and analytics, coached / mentored by seasoned professionals in the practice, via an industry-linked consulting project.

To ensure rigour and relevance of the program, the School of IT worked closely with business analytics experts from SAS Philippines and Intellection Corporation in identifying the units of knowledge required of business analytics professionals. Intended to be a one-year and two quarter terms, the program’s structure and content is an integrated curriculum with a unique blend of statistics, applied math, computer science and industry disciplines designed to meet the specific needs of students and employers.
