Cardinal Dynamics Team Placed 1st Runner-Up in Inaugural AWS DeepRace League

The Cardinal Dynamics team, consisting of BS Computer Science students John Christian S. Diamante, John Emmanuel J. Dela Vega, and Cara L. Roño, finished as the first runner-up in the inagural inter-university AWS DeepRace League, held last January 17, 2023 at the Bonifacio Global City Tower.

The event, which was made possible by the collaboration of Globe with Amazaon Web Services, attracted 19 teams from five universities: Bulacan State University, De La Salle University, Mapua University, University of Santo Tomas, and the University of the Philippines.

AWS DeepRacer is a global fully autonomous 1/18th scale race car driven by reinforcement learning (RL) –  an advanced ML technique – and a 3D racing simulator. The AWS DeepRacer League enables students from universities to explore and learn about ML in a new way, as they train and race the AWS DeepRacer autonomous vehicles, either on a physical track or on a 3D virtual racing simulator.

Cardinal Dynamics finished with an impressive time of 13.884 seconds, less than a second behind the winning team, Turing Racing from the University of the Philippines Diliman that recorded a whooping time of 13.009 seconds. Meanwhile, veloECEty from the University of Santo Tomas placed as second runner-up with a time of 15.460 seconds.
