INTRODUCTION

Information Technology has come a long way since the dawn of the information age. More and more educational institutions are looking into it as a central focus of their academic offerings.

 An inevitable chasm between the industry and the academic is established but the responsibility lies heavily in the education.

In-line with the far reaching transformation of Mapúa Institute of Technology, their newly formed School of Information Technology recognizes the value of the school as an integral part of molding individuals that will be innovators in the field of Information Technology.

BRIEF HISTORY

The 2nd semester of AY 2000-2001 ushered the birth of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BS CS) as it was included in the regular program offered by Mapua Institute of Technology. It started with less than 100 enrollees whose faculty were composed of part time professor from Development Office for Information Technology (DOIT) and full time professors from School of Information Technology.

The first dean of SOIT is Engr. Milagros Luquingan a graduate of Mapua Institute of Technology with a degree of BS. Computer Engineer. She also finished MEP-CoE.

The Intramuros campus housed initially the offering of the program.

In AY 2001-2002, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BS IT) and Bachelor of Science in Information Management (BS IM) was included in the program offered by SOIT.

In April 2002, School of Information Technology transferred to Makati Campus located at #333 MITC Bldg. Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. Makati City.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

  • Provide students with knowledge of theories and foundation required in Computer Science
  • Develop students’ capacity to apply the learned theories in the practice of Computer Science
  • Instill in the students the values and ethics in the practice of their profession
  • Inculcate in the students the need for career-long continuing education

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

  • Provide students with knowledge of theories and foundation required in Information Technology
  • Develop students’ capacity to apply the learned theories in the practice of Information Technology
  • Instill in the students the values and ethics in the practice of their profession
  • Inculcate in the students the need for career-long continuing education

Bachelor of Science in Information Management

  • Provide students with knowledge of theories and foundation required in Information Management
  • Develop students’ capacity to apply the learned theories in the practice of Information Management
  • Instill in the students the values and ethics in the practice of their profession
